In 2024, we partnered with Poppy's Cupcakes London, a local bakery founded by Wendy in 2013. While Wendy had built her original website herself during the early stages of her business, it no longer met the demands of today's fast-paced digital world. The site struggled with speed, functionality, and user experience, hindering its ability to attract and retain customers. We conducted a deep dive into their old website and social media presence to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement.

Our goal was to create a modern, fast, and user-friendly website that truly reflected the charm and quality of Poppy's Cupcakes. By optimizing performance, streamlining navigation, and incorporating a fresh, inviting design, we delivered a platform that not only enhanced customer engagement but also positioned Wendy's business for continued growth in a competitive market. This project allowed us to help Poppy's Cupcakes London thrive online and bring their sweet vision to life.

I started by crafting the design with a minimalist approach, ensuring it aligned with Poppy's Cupcakes London's vision of simplicity and speed. Instead of using robust colors or heavy animations, I focused on a clean, understated aesthetic that prioritized fast loading times and a seamless user experience. The goal was to direct customers' attention to what truly matters—showcasing their delicious cupcakes and making it easy for users to navigate the site without distractions.

To achieve this, I carefully selected subtle animations and a muted color palette that complemented the brand's identity. The layout was designed to be intuitive, with clear navigation and strategic placement of key elements like the menu, contact information, and calls-to-action. By keeping the design minimal yet impactful, we ensured the website not only looked elegant but also performed efficiently across all devices, from desktops to smartphones. This approach allowed us to create a user-friendly platform that highlighted Poppy's Cupcakes London's offerings while delivering a fast and enjoyable browsing experience.

Web Development

Once the design was finalized, I brought it to life using SvelteKit and TypeScript, ensuring the website was both fast and easy to maintain. For deployment, I chose Vercel to guarantee optimal performance and reliability. To keep the design minimal yet engaging, I utilized built-in Svelte animations for subtle effects like view-on-scroll, ensuring the website remained lightweight and quick to load. Clean, readable code was a top priority, making it easy for anyone to understand and extend the codebase in the future.

To empower Poppy's Cupcakes London, I also built a custom dashboard, allowing them to edit their website independently without needing external help. This dashboard gives them full control over their content, from updating product details to managing promotions. After all, it’s their website—why should they rely on someone else for edits? By providing this tool, I ensured they could make changes effortlessly, giving them the freedom and confidence to manage their online presence on their own terms.

Graphic Design

For the visuals, I opted for a soft and inviting design using a light pink background, which complemented Poppy's Cupcakes London's brand identity. Dark pink was used as the primary color for buttons and key elements, creating a subtle yet impactful contrast that draws attention to calls-to-action. To maintain a clean and modern look, I chose grey for headings, ensuring readability while keeping the design elegant and uncluttered.

The goal was to create a clear visual hierarchy that guides users effortlessly through the website. By using bold dark pink for primary actions and softer grey for headings, I ensured that users could easily navigate and focus on the most important information. Every element was thoughtfully arranged to create an intuitive and engaging experience, reflecting the simplicity and charm of Poppy's Cupcakes London.
